Research + Outreach
The Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) conducts timely economic policy research, analysis, and forecasting for a public audience. Located in the Miller College of Business at Ball State University, we serve audiences in Muncie, East Central Indiana, the state, and the nation through our data-based examination of current economic issues.
CBER research covers a variety of topics including public finance, regional economics, manufacturing, transportation, and quality of place and workforce. View CBER's most recent studies and publications. We produce the CBER Data Center—a suite of free, web-based data tools—and the Indiana Business Bulletin—a weekly news digest with perspective on current issues and regularly updated data for dozens of economic indicators.
In addition to research and data delivery, CBER facilitates community business discussions in East Central Indiana—holding the annual Indiana Economic Outlook and meetings of the Ball State University Business Roundtable.
Ball State's Center for Business and Economic Research is a member of the Association for University Business and Economic Research. Since 1947, AUBER members engage in a diverse array of applied economic research and provide their communities with public presentations, forums, economic forecasts, and workshops in areas of interest to the business community.
CBER is also a member of the University Economic Development Association, an organization representing higher education, private sector, and community economic development stakeholders. Since 1976, UEDA members work to expand economic opportunity in their communities by leveraging research, community resources, campus planning, talent development, and technology commercialization.
CBER projects have been recognized for their quality by our peers in both organizations. View CBER's awards and recognition.
