On 22 April 2014, COTE announced its 2013-2014 COTE award recipients.
The awards fall into three main categories:
COTE Exemplar Awards recognize individuals or groups with significant accomplishments promoting the sustainable use of natural resources or the protection of ecological systems.
Individuals who have a record of continual significant achievements are further recognized by the awarding of a "COTE Exemplar Lifetime Achievement Award".
COTE Green Initiative Awards recognize everyday activities, decisions or contributions that help to move Ball State University toward sustainability. Their purpose is to reward discrete contributions rather than a history of multiple accomplishments.
COTE Service Awards recognize past individual service on or to the BSU Council on the Environment.
During her 10 years as our president, Dr. Gora has demonstrated an unflinching commitment to Ball State’s continuing leadership on the international sustainability stage. As a result of her support, Ball State University has received international, national and regional recognition and awards. Dr. Gora’s openness in working with students, faculty and staff as well as external organizations in advancing campus-wide sustainability has served to reinforce the importance of this mission for all members of the campus community and in fact colleges and universities throughout the state of Indiana and the nation.
These three individuals formed the culinary team from "Team Kentuckiana", a team of students from the University of Louisville, Ball State University, and the University of Kentucky who designed and built a solar home which is a permanent solution for disaster relief. The net-zero solar house which is more durable and efficient than a typical house, was entered in the Department of Energy's 2013 Solar Decathlon at Orange County Great Park, October 2013. Of the 19 teams, the culinary team from Team Kentuckiana placed first in the entertainment and dining portion of the competitions.
In recognition of her commitment to the stewardship of our natural resources, the protection of ecological systems and the public’s understanding of the complex issues that bear upon our stewardship of natural resources, as demonstrated by her service on the BSU Council on the Environment from 2010 to 2014.
