Education Without Walls: Phil Repp

With all due respect to Christopher Columbus and Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columReppPhilnist Tom Friedman, the world is neither round nor flat. As Phil Repp will tell you, it's 3-D. As vice president for information technology and concurrent associate professor of art at Ball State, Repp is extending the "educational realm of the classroom" as both administrator—forming collaborative partnerships that put some of the newest emerging media tools at students' fingertips—and teacher/researcher, developing technology-related immersive learning opportunities that explore how breakthrough information systems such as the Microsoft Surface can serve as-yet-unimagined or unrealized goals, especially in education. The expert in 3-D modeling and visualization is the creative force behind the Digital Corps, which prepares undergraduates for industry-standard software certifications at the same time it provides the Ball State community with a cadre of digital media experts. The distinctive program earned Repp recognition by Campus Technology magazine as one of its Innovators of the Year in 2008. Contact Phil Repp at 765-285-1669.
