Action!: Rodger Smith

As director of the Institute for Digital Entertainment and Education (IDEE) and associate profSmithRodgeressor in the Department of Theatre and Dance, Rodger Smith has incorporated high definition cinema, live theatre, and interactive media into hundreds of emerging media and immersive learning experiences. In the summer of 2008, he produced Ball State’s first commercial full-length professional film, My Name is Jerry, starring Doug Jones (Pan in Pan's Labyrinth, Abe Sapien in Hellboy: The Golden Army).

Along with making movies, IDEE works with traditional courses to develop alternative and immersive services, as well as partnering with outside industry to create content for a variety of Web and mobile platforms. Smith’s work has resulted in projects aimed at new wave digital publishing and high definition cinema pieces. As part of the Digital Entertainment Option Pilot, Smith oversaw the creation of two webisode series, three music videos, numbers of film and theatre trailers, and more than 40 different emerging media experiments. Smith’s efforts have produced two Student Academy Award winners, a Billboard Educational Entertainment award, an Arts and Entertainment Great American Screen Contest winner, and a silver Addy award. Smith can be reached at 765-285-8756.
