Content Management: Course Groups

The Group tool inside Blackboard courses and communities allows instructors to organize students into pairs or groups to collaborate and work together. Participants inside a group may have access to their own group version of various course tools (Discussion Board, Blog, Wiki, File Exchange, Email, etc.) separate from the rest of the class. Groups can be created manually or automatically by the instructor. When creating Group Sets, there is a third enrollment option to randomly assign student to a group.

Some uses for course groups include:

  • To disseminate information about different topics to students.
  • To separate student in the Grade Center when two course sections have been combined.
  • Utilizing the Discussion Board and other course tools in am more manageable fashion with large classes.
