FEATURED OPPORTUNITIES

Here are several opportunities that have caught our attention.  If you are interested in participating with any of these opportunities, or if you have any ideas, please contact Kristie Smith-Johnson at 765-285-5422. 

1.        Arthur B. Schultz Foundation –  Barb Stedman will be the Principal Investigator (PI).  working with AWAKEN a local 501(c)(3) that addresses the needs of women and children in Afghanistan. The funding requested will provide assistance to the local Afghan branch of AWAKEN (Afghanistan) to improve and expand the local medical clinic AWAKEN created a few years ago. They will request between $170,000 and $210,000.  There is a rolling deadline but they would like to submit in December.

 

2.        Department of State: Afghan Women’s Empowerment -  funding to improve the quality of life for Afghan women with a focus on developing leadership and advocacy skills, raising women’s awareness of their constitutional rights, etc.  Barb Stedman (PI) will again work with AWAKEN to promote the skills requested while women participate in vocational training.   The funding range is between $5,000 to $50,000. There is a rolling deadline but they would like to submit in December.

 

 

3.        Department of State: TechGirls – 25 teenage girls between the ages of 15-17 from select countries in the MENA region will participate in a three to five week (preferably three) on-campus Tech Boot Camp focused on promoting high-level study of technology (all kinds). Fred Kitchens (Information Systems) will be the Principal Investigator. The funding is up to $175,000 and the proposed Boot Camp will be between June 15 and July 18, 2012.  Deadline: December 15, 2011

 

4.        Department of State: Study of the US Institutes (SUSI) – Women’s Leadership – 20 undergraduate women from the MENA region will participate in a five week on-campus leadership institute that will develop participants’ leadership skills such as critical thinking , communication, decision-making, and managerial abilities. Maria Williams-Hawkins will be the Principal Investigator and she will work with Kirsten Smith.  The funding is $240,000 and camp will be held between June 15 and July 18 .
