January 15, 2003: Twenty Ball State University students have won funding to produce cutting-edge media artifacts in a program named “Tell a Vision,” part of the Lilly iCommunication grant, administered by the Virginia Ball Center.
Audio Interactive Experience:Junior Jeff Cooney and his team worked closely with the Muncie Children's Museum. Using digital music and video technology this team created an interactive children's museum exhibit through which children learned about music and experiment with sound. (L-R: Jeff Cooney (Team Leader), Marty Tormoehlen, Heather Rowe, Joe Kunkel and Stacy Haggard).
The Hemingway Project:
A team led by senior English major James McWilliams created a digital companion to A Moveable Feast, Ernest Hemingway's memoir of his time in 1920s Paris. This literary companion piece not only annotated each chapter but also provided a virtual tour of Paris, including video, photography, text, and audio narration. (L-R: James McWilliams (Team Leader), Rob Moery, Alysha Oglesby and Chris Raleigh).
Mitchell Place Gallery Web: Students led by junior Mark Miller worked with Muncie's Mitchell Place art gallery to create a virtual gallery space. Whereas typical “online galleries” tend to make even great art look bland, the Mitchell Place team intended to explore ways to make viewing art on the Web interesting, suitable for the art, informative, and interactive. (L-R: Tony Kubek, Dr. Jay Zimmerman (Faculty Advisor), Chad Yoder and Mark Miller (Team Leader)).
Everything You Need on a CD:
This team was led by junior Michael Walthour and created a virtual tour of Ball State University (BSU). This tour, endorsed by BSU's Office of Admissions, allowed students to take a digital walk through campus, hear departmental representatives discuss opportunities at Ball State, explore local attractions, and generally learn a great deal about life and education at Ball State University. The tour is available not only in a CD-ROM version which can be sent to high school guidance counselors and potential students, but also in a PDA version, which provides a self-guided walking tour for campus visitors. ((Front Row L-R:) Jonathan Young, Stephanie Lynch, Michael Walthour (Team Leader), Jennifer Henson; (Back Row), Stephen Reding, Dumac McKay, Tony Piazza, Dr. John Dailey (Faculty Advisor), Scott Sylte).
