Make an Appointment

To get free one-to-one writing feedback, you will need an appointment. All of our appointments are managed online, so you can create, modify, or cancel an appointment any time, day or night.

New users must register with our online scheduling system. Don't worry, it only takes a second!

Returning users just need to log in. (We can help if you have forgotten your log in or password info.)

Make sure you pick how you want to meet with us. We can meet you in person at Robert Bell 286 or online through our scheduler; we just need to know where to look for you.

If you have any questions you can call us, e-mail us, or chat with us live during regular business hours.

New!

To join your tutor in your online session, go to the scheduler about 10 minutes before your appointment starts and click on your appointment time. In the form that pops up, you will see a red link that says "Start or Join an Online Consultation." Click on this link.

You will see a screen that shows you a whiteboard, a video conferencing box to the left, and a chat box to the right. At the top of the screen, you'll see an icon that shows two arrows pointing west and east. Click on this to upload your file. Your tutor will meet you there.

What to expect at your appointment?

Together, you and your tutor discuss the reason for your visit and determine the most crucial writing tasks to be addressed. The tutor usually focuses on one or two specific aspects of the project that you feel need the most attention. You can make follow-up appointments, if you have additional concerns that could not be addressed in your initial appointment.

Often, the tutor or you will read aloud sections of the paper that you'd like feedback on, if you're meeting in The Writing Center or online in our scheduler. If you're meeting in the scheduler, you are able to use the Video Conferencing, In-text Comment and Chat features to communicate with your tutor through text.

During your appointment, the tutor will point out areas of concern and give suggestions for improving your writing. Throughout the session, you will be expected to be actively engaged, making the crucial revision decisions. Your writing improves as you develop skills and build on your writing strengths, focusing on one aspect of your writing at a time.
