Awards and Recognitions

Our students and faculty strive for the best. While we don’t do this to be recognized, it’s always nice to see our hard work noticed by peers in our discipline. Through participation in various projects and research, students and faculty in the Department of Anthropology have won several awards. Here are a few of the recent ones:

Faculty

• Christina Blanch , Instructor,  (MA 2006 ) received the 2009-2010 Outstanding Educator Award from Continuing Education.
• Cailin Murray, Associate Professor, was accepted as one of 16 participants (from US and Canada) for the NEH Faculty Seminar at MIT this summer, The English Encounter the Americas
• Mark Groover , Associate Professor, and the  VBC student produced and Emmy-nominated documentary Remembering Freedom: James Clemens and the Longtown Settlement was selected for competitive screening at the 2011 Big Bear Lake International Film Festival in California, Sept 16.  It is being screened in the documentary competition category.  Kari Wilhems will be attending the festival to represent the VBC/dept/university.  Anthropology students Zach Coffman, Emma Hofeling, Jessica Miller, Allison Troutner, Antonio Westmoreland, Rory Whited, Kari Wilhems, and Tyler Wolford created the documentary for the VBC seminar, with several history and English majors. 

Students

• Alina Beteringhe Was awared the P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship for $9000.  The (IPS) fund was established in 1949 to provide scholarships for international women students to pursue graduate study in the United States and Canada.   
• Victoria Lucas, undergraduate major, won one of two undergraduate awards at the 2011 BSU Student Symposium  for her poster Interurban Station Mounds State Park.
• Loren Holditch , won best paper at the Indiana University AGSA Symposium for her paper Christianity and Reality Television: The Role of Media in Midwestern American Supernatural Beliefs.  Indiana University AGSA Symposium, The Technologies of Culture: Techniques and Theory
• Whitney Lingle, a current MA student, was selected to receive a $500 2011 Bernadette Perham Scholarship awarded by the BSU College of Sciences and Humanities.  The award will be presented in October 2011.
