Robert Glass joins the School of Art as assistant professor of art history, replacing Ron Rarick. Robert earned his BA in Urban Studies at Stanford University and an MA in Anthropology from Stanford as well. He then earned a second MA, this one in Art History from Williams College, and his Ph.D. from Princeton. Most recently, Dr. Glass was visiting assistant professor at Notre-Dame, and was visiting assistant professor at Oberlin College from 2011-2012. A scholar specializing in fifteenth-century Italy, he has published on Filarete (an understudied Florentine bronze sculptor and architect working primarily in Rome and Milan) in various peer-reviewed journals, including the Medal through the British Museum, Art Bulletin, and the journal for the Center for Advance Studies in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery of Art, Washington. He currently is preparing a book manuscript on Filarete based on his dissertation. Dr. Glass’ research has been supported by grants and fellowships from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation; a three year Mellon Fellowship at the Center for Advanced Studies in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery in Washington; a fellowship from Fondazione Lemmerman in Rome; and various awards from Princeton University and Williams College.
