Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts (MFA)

The Department of Art offers the MFA with an emphasis in Glass and an emphasis in Animation. Through concentrated study and experimentation, students will focus on individual development of their artistic practice. Graduate coursework led by personal inquiry will be augmented by close contact with a committee of faculty chosen by each candidate. Students will explore ideas and techniques, interact with visiting artists and critics, and broaden their technical, aesthetic, and conceptual understanding of glass or animation within contemporary practice.

The program can be completed in six semesters (two years) and will require 60 credit hours of coursework comprised of:

  • 18 credit hours of graduate level art history, topical colloquiums and seminars, and a thesis preparation course
  • 9 credits of studio electives
  • 27 credits of studio specialization courses
  • 6 credits of graduate thesis (creative project)
