Bachelor of Science All-Grade Teaching Degree Requirements
The bachelor of science degree (68 credit hours) provides 12 credit hours in art history courses, 21 credit hours of art studio courses after the foundations core, and 36 credit hours of professional education. Students earn a K-12 educational license in art education. Students work directly with public school students as part of their field experiences, gaining real-world experience that increases their marketability post-graduation. As unique part of the program, students teach Saturday Children’s Art Classes in which they plan, budget, and teach their own curriculum to community children.
Students wanting to pursue a teaching major must meet all
teacher certification and GPA requirements. This includes achieving a passing score on the PRAXIS 1 exam.
Students interested in foreign languages can earn a
bachelor of art degree in visual arts education. This degree program requires 2 years (or the equivalent) of study in one foreign language, normally courses through the 202 level.
Students are required to purchase a Macintosh laptop and to maintain an
online digital portfolio documenting their work throughout the sequence of study to meet teacher certification and GPA requirements. The department reserves the right to retain examples of student work for exhibition and accreditation.
Students are assigned a
visual arts education advisor on completing 30 hours of coursework. Students are encouraged to meet with a faculty advisor often in order to successfully negotiate the many requirements of this degree program.
Students are strongly advised to pursue required course sequences during the regular academic year.
