The Bachelor of Science degree (68 credit hours) requires 12 credit hours in art history courses, 21 credit hours of art studio courses after the foundations core, and 36 credit hours of professional education.
Students work directly with public school students as part of their field experiences and gain real-world experience, which increases their marketability post-graduation. As a unique part of the program, students teach Saturday Children’s Art Classes for which they plan, budget, and teach their own curriculum to community children.
Visual Arts Education students earn a K-12 teaching certificate (license) in Visual Arts for the state of Indiana, allowing them to teach at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Many states -- including Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky -- honor this certification.
