Requirements and Sample Schedules

If you want to teach high school or middle school and are beginning your freshman year in the fall of an even-numbered year (2010, 2012, etc.), you can expect a schedule similar to the following (UCC stands for University Core Curriculum):

Bachelor of Science in Science - Teaching Major in Life Science
Total Program Hours - 58

The following courses for 58 hours of credit are required for life science licensure to teach science at the middle school/junior high level with a life science concentration:

 

Bio 111 Principles of Biology 1 Bio 112 Principles of Biology 2 Chem 111 General Chemistry 1 Chem 112 General Chemistry 2 Phycs 110 General Physics 1 Phycs 112 General Physics 2 Astro 120 Stars & Stellar System Astro 121 Astronomy Lab Geol 102 Earth, Life, Time Geog 230 Elementary Meteorology Nrem 101 Environmental & Society Maths 181 Elem.Prob/Stats -or- Bio 448 Biometry

If you want to add a high school license, then you must also take these additional 12 hours which will add a semester to your program:

The follow courses for 57 hours of credit are required for life science licensure to teach science at the high school level:
