College of Architecture and Planning

Visual Resources Collection and David R. Hermansen Slide Collection

As a profession, environmental design and planning relies heavily on photography to document places and spaces, and today’s technology is making such photography all the more accessible.

The Visual Resources Collection in the College of Architecture and Planning provides digitized copies of slides in the collection along with related digital images. Image subjects include buildings and sites of historical importance as well as significant contemporary examples of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning.

The digital image collection can be found online through the University Libraries' Digital Media Repository. It’s searchable, and images may be used in presentations and other projects.

The David R. Hermansen Slide Collection includes more than 119,000 slides available for use by students, faculty, and staff in the College of Architecture and Planning as well as all Ball State University ID holders. Among the slides is an extensive Indiana collection. The entire collection is fully cataloged, with information available through the University Libraries CardCat online public access catalog.

The Visual Resources Collection is open during the academic year from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday though Friday. Hours vary during summer sessions. Current hours are always available by calling 765-285-7828.
