College of Architecture and Planning

Research Opportunities

At any university, you’ll find a wealth of research taking place. But in Ball State’s College of Architecture and Planning, the research is particularly hands-on and applied—and it benefits from lots of student involvement.

Our college’s educational mission is all about developing knowledge, models, and creative and technical skills needed to solve design and planning problems, and the opportunities for students to participate are rich.

During their time here, graduate and undergraduate students alike complete a wide variety of design and research projects for real-world clients facing real-life situations. It may be part of studio and lab course work or part of a thesis requirement. Such work often comes through field-based experiences or internships. You can get a taste of the quality of this student research by browsing thesis work prepared by past graduate students and past undergraduates.

Faculty, meanwhile, pursue a diverse range of research and practice of their own, and they often involve students. So do the institutes and centers affiliated with the college.
