Michele Chiuini is a Professor of Architecture at Ball State
University, where he teaches architectural design and structural design. He has a degree in structural engineering
from the Politecnico of Milan, Italy, and an MA from the Department of
Architecture of the University of Sheffield, England. He has practiced in
Italy, Japan, England and the US. He has practice and research experience in
housing design and rehabilitation, and has participated in the 2013 US DOE
Solar Decathlon competition. From 1990 to 2003 he led the summer ArkItalia
program on the preservation and urban design of historic centers in Italy.
Chiuini’s current research work focuses on applications of digital
technologies and the interface of building technology and architectural theory.
He has researched and published on the Chicago Stock Exchange Building by Adler
and Sullivan since 2007. Other recent research projects include Digital Santa
Maria Antiqua in the Roman Forum, and Laser Scanner Applications in Historic
Preservation. He is co-author of Structural
Design: A Practical Guide for Architects (Wiley, 2007).
