Required courses in theory, methods, and design studio provide a shared foundation, while several elective or independent study opportunities enable students to chart their own study plans. Independent study is typically a directed reading done by one or two students with the guidance of a faculty member in a topical area of interest to both.
The post-professional master's program (currently on hold and being redesigned) includes 15 credit hours (five classes) of required courses, 9 credit hours (three classes) of electives or independent study, and 6 credit hours for the thesis or creative project. Most students enroll in 12 credits each of the first two semesters, followed by the thesis or creative project.
The following schedule outlines the ideal course of study for this degree:
Note: It is rare for students to complete these requirements in three semesters, and means academic work during the summer. It is possible to finish in 1.5 calendar years, but it is unlikely. However, it is also unlikely that the program will be able to offer anyone additional funding for a second year in residence.
