Urban Planning

Our Unique Approach

At Ball State, we take a unique approach to urban planning. We use a studio-based approach to planning education and immerse our students in real-life planning practice. We use the studio environment to address community development problems. You will be happy to note that because we rely heavily on hands-on experience, you will have your own large studio bay work space to work on designs and graphics, using top-notch technology and resources.

And through the Community-Based Projects (CBP) program and other immersive learning opportunities, you will take your education beyond the classroom, finding real-world solutions for real-world problems.

Plus we are a design-oriented planning school. Here you will learn the skills of physical planning and urban design, which can be through infill redevelopment (i.e. vacant lots, rundown buildings) or in undeveloped areas of a community.
