Urban Planning

Study Abroad and Field Study

As an urban planning student, you will have the opportunity to take trips to places across the country and around the world that demonstrate a rich variety of approaches to planning and land development. These experiences will introduce a multicultural and diverse understanding of planning solutions.

Our program has provided on-site study of Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Nashville, Toronto, Portland, and Seattle, among others. You will also travel to the American Planning Association's annual convention to mingle with other students and planning professionals.

During the spring semester in alternate years, a group of students participates in CapAsia to study planning problems, solutions, and cultures in Malaysia, China, India, and Sri Lanka, a program of unique international stature.

Pradeep Dissanayake and Nirmani Rillapala Liyanage were among the students making the CapAsia trip in 2013.  Also featured in the photo is Prof. Nihal Perera.

Our active study-abroad program involves courses and an internship in a planning-related agency. Study-abroad sites on five continents have included the Indian subcontinent, the Netherlands, China, Japan, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. Learn more about other College of Architecture and Planning study abroad programs as well as those offered by Ball State University.
