Our programs mix theory with hands-on experience. As a student at Ball State, don’t expect to hear professors lecturing the entire class period. We want to hear from you. While many schools offer urban planning education, at Ball State, we take an unique approach to planning education. We utilize a studio based approach to planning education an immerse our students in real life planning practice using the studio environment to address community development problems. We are a design-oriented school here in addition to planning policy, you will learn the skills of physical planning and urban design, which we define as the art of turning space into place, whether this is through infill redevelopment, or an undeveloped areas of the community.
You can take advantage of immersive learning opportunities, in which student teams find real-world solutions for a community or business partner. And you can make a difference for communities through the Community-Based Projects (CBP) program. Plus you’ll gain a ton of experience by doing a required internship and working closely with faculty and staff in different project areas. If you already have a bachelor’s degree, we offer master’s degrees in urban and regional planning and development with study options in Muncie and Indianapolis.
