Women Working in Technology Initiative

Women Working in Technology (WWiT) is an initiative of the Center for Information and Communication Sciences (CICS) and receives support from the College of Communication, Information, and Media. Formed in 2007, WWiT promotes and supports technology education and careers for individuals in high school and beyond.

WWiT Activities include:

Annual Conference

One of our most popular events with this initiative is our annual spring conference for professionals, graduate students and select undergraduates.

Free Conference Attendance to Students

Since 2008, CICS has recruited support and sponsorship for its WWiT initiative from generous organizations including:

The Digital Policy Institute, Interactive Intelligence, Cisco, Ontario Systems, Orange Business Services, Impact Advisors, Telemon, Accenture, Slalom Consulting and charitable CICS alumni.

These sponsors have made it possible for student scholarships to attend the conference and allow professionals to attend at a reasonable cost.

IT Workshops in a Box

WWiT has created 12 fun and creative IT Workshops for middle school girls. IT Workshops in a Box consists of 12 workshops - lesson plans, learning objectives, state and national standards, supply lists, costs and resources for further exploration on the topics. Anyone who wants to use these workshops is granted permission under Creative Commons License.

Workshop subjects: Basic Electricity in an Art Piece, Binary as Code, Program a Friend, Web Design & HTML, Computer Breakdown, Game Design, Wireless, Finding Facebook (networking), Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Designing for User Experience, "Hello World" Programming.

Lunch and Learns

Held Monthly, our Lunch and Learn events bring professional women to Ball State to share topics of interest to graduate and undergraduate students. Topics range from personal growth to technologies to career roles.

If you are interested in getting involved as a professional, student or mentor, contact Kirsten Smith.
