Your Practicum
Practicum in Applied Behavior Analysis: SPCE 638
Before enrolling in the Practicum in Applied Behavior Analysis: SPCED 638, you must have completed the following courses with a final grade of “C” or higher:
The courses cannot be combined in the same semester and the sequence of the courses must be planned with your advisor, Bonnie Krupa (bjkrupa@bsu.edu).
Things to Consider Prior to Requesting Permission
- If you are earning a license in Indiana, you need to have an Indiana address and complete your practicum in Indiana.
- It is your responsibility to secure a practicum site to conduct your practicum. This location should help you meet your professional goals.
- Acceptable practicum locations include schools, ABA clinics/home programs, group homes, hospitals, and mental health centers, among others.
- This position can be paid but it is not required.
Review the non-compete, if any, you are required to sign for placement.
- If your goal is to take the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) certification exam, your supervisor must be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and must meet the requirements to be a “supervisor,” according to the BACB. Your supervisor should have experience in behavior management to appropriately guide you through the course.
- Who would qualify: psychologist, special education teacher, principal, fellow teacher, etc.
- You must be able to commit to working a minimum of 10 hours per week and a maximum of 30 hours per week.
- Before enrolling, make sure that you have met the prerequisites.
Practicum in Autism: SPCE 683
Before enrolling in the Practicum in Autism: SPCED 683 you must have completed the following courses with a final grade of “C” or higher:
- SPCE 609
- SPCE 611 is recommended but not required
- SPCE 680
- SPCE 682

- If your goal is to meet the University requirement for the Autism Certificate and/or graduation only, your supervisor is not required to be a BCBA. Your supervisor should have experience in behavior management to appropriately guide you through the course.
