The English Department has a long-standing commitment to community engagement. Regular community projects include:

  • English 409: Creative Writing in the Community, in which Ball State students create an anthology of local childrens' writing to be distributed to the community and the school.
  • Indiana Writing Project, the local outpost of the National Writing Project, which promotes the best possible writing instruction in Indiana schools. The IWP offers professional development programs on effective practices by and for teachers.
  • Indiana Writers Center, where our students team up with local volunteers to work with at risk youth on their writing.
  • Midwest Writers Workshop, where English students attend and work with community members to manage the writing conference.
