Teaching English Language Arts

Our students are prepared for careers in secondary school teaching by our dedicated faculty who have taught in public schools and published research on pedagogy. Students take content courses both in English and communications as well as courses focusing on the methods and strategies for the classroom.

Students who successfully complete the program, which includes a semester of student teaching, are licensed to teach English/Language Arts and Communications in Indiana schools.  See more information about the degree requirements, or contact Pamela Hartman, director of English education, for more information.

In addition to the English/Language Arts licensing, we also offer classes leading to licensure in English as a second language (ESL).
