Ball State University’s annual Practical Criticism Midwest conference (PCM) aims to provide graduate students in English with a forum to share their work in the field of English. The PCM conference committee invites submissions of abstracts from all Ball State graduate students in rhetoric and composition, linguistics and TESOL, literature, and creative writing.
As emerging scholars, graduate students are eager to participate in knowledge-making, but they may be uncertain about the expectations of engaging in an academic forum: learning the rules, speaking the language, mastering the idioms, and situating their arguments within the framework of other scholarship. PCM provides an opportunity to bridge the gap between education and experience at a day-long conference.
The premise for PCM is to provide a friendly forum for Ball State graduate students to begin to bridge that gap. It also gives individuals in the department the opportunity to share ideas and get better acquainted. In addition to first-time presenters, PCM welcomes the work of graduate students who have presented their work at professional conferences.
This event is free to all Ball State students and faculty. Registration is requested for many of the events, and further registration information is available as the conference nears.
