A common thread in my scholarship and teaching has been an interest in the ways that communities create knowledge through writing and communication. I teach Composition and writing courses at all levels. In my classroom, I create a space where students can work together to learn about writing and themselves as writers. In addition, I serve as the Director of the Writing Center. A part of this job is to foster a “culture of writing” at Ball State. I particularly value connections between the Writing Center and faculty/students across the curriculum.
Recently these interests have drawn me to look at professional development of Writing Center consultants and graduate teaching assistants in Composition. My dissertation, Disciplinary Participation and Genre Acquisition of Graduate Teaching Assistants in Composition, focuses on the way that graduate teaching assistants and mentors construct the discipline of Composition and the community of a writing program.
Finally, my book, The Creation of Narrative in Table-top Role-Playing Games, examines issues of narrative development and co-authorship in face-to-face role-playing games.
