At Ball State University, Alpha Sigma Chapter is an affiliate of this national honorary society in family and consumer sciences. The purposes are to recognize and promote excellence, enhance qualities of leadership by providing opportunities for service, and encourage lifelong learning and commitment to advance family and consumer sciences and related areas.

Membership eligibility is based on scholarship, leadership, character, and service.

  • Earning a GPA of at least 3.0 or higher 
  • Majoring in a program within the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences 
  • Having completed at least 6 credit hours in family and consumer sciences courses and a minimum of 36 total credits at the university 
  • Having at least two academic semesters (fall/spring) of remaining courses on campus

Membership is by invitation and initiation occurring fall and spring semesters.
