Residential Property Management Program
The Residential Property Management (RPM) Program offers opportunities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, students may also pursue an
Apartment Management Certificate. At the undergraduate level, students have the choice to pursue an
RPM Major or an
RPM Minor. And at the graduate level, students may pursue a
Master’s Degree Option in RPM. While all of our academic programs are available on campus, the Apartment Management Certificate and the RPM Minor are also available online through
Distance Education.
Students in the RPM program make connections nationwide with
industry partners from the property management and apartment industry which comprise the
RPM Advisory Board. Students interact with these industry professionals through class projects, field trips,
internships, conferences, and professional networking events. These industry professionals serve as RPM class speakers and also make guest appearances at meetings for the RPM student organization,
Residential Property Management Association (RPMA).
A variety of
scholarships and awards are available for both undergraduate RPM Majors and RPM graduate students as a result of generous contributions from companies on the
RPM Advisory Board. The RPM Advisory Board supports travel awards that allow high-achieving students to attend professional conferences such as the
Midwest Multifamily Exposition & Education Conference which is hosted by the
Indiana Apartment Association (IAA) and the
National Apartment Association (NAA) Education Conference & Exposition. For eligible incoming freshman, there are also scholarships available through the RPM Program and the
Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS).
A student in the RPM program has the opportunity to be in one of only a few universities in the country that have a residential property management degree program. Undergraduate Majors and Graduate students in the RPM Program have the opportunity to sit for both the National Apartment Leasing Professional (NALP) and Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) Exams. Students completing the curriculum, developing and presenting a project, earning industry experience, and passing the exams will earn their NALP and CAM designations. Students pursuing the undergraduate RPM or Apartment Management Certificate are also eligible for the NALP designation.
Even before graduation, RPM students are in high demand.
RPM Alumni are employed by companies all over the country, starting in a variety of entry level positions, and then move up very quickly in the industry.
