Welcoming Session
This session will discuss the transition to graduate school, success strategies for a positive graduate school experience, and will include a panel of current students sharing valuable resources.

Students may attend two sessions, topics to be determined. Session One: 3:30-4:00 pm

General Graduate School FAQ Session

Do you have any general questions for The Graduate School that we haven’t yet answered? Visit this session to get your questions answered before you start your graduate career.

Finding and Keeping Your Mentor
Location: WB Room 139
Mentorship throughout your graduate career and even past that can help develop you into the professional you want to be. During this breakout session, doctoral student Robin Phelps-Ward will discuss tips to find your mentor, and Dr. Sharon Bowman will share ways to keep your mentor. You will learn what to look for in a mentor, how to approach a potential mentor, and how to keep the lines of communication open beyond your graduate study.

Professional Development Skills for an Academic Career

Location: WB Room 140
As a graduate student you may have already begun thinking about your future in academia, but aren’t sure what resources Ball State offers to help get you reach your goal? Attend this session led by a current graduate student who will provide the tools, resources and knowledge of what to do now in order to pave the way for your academic career. You will leave this session feeling empowered with tips and tools to make the most of your time while completing your masters to have a strong foundation for your life in academia.

Your Digital Presence

Social media is a popular tool for students to communicate and express their ideas. Enjoy an engaging conversation from a current faculty member who will provide strategies to ensure your digital presence reflects your professional and academic personality.

How Do I Fund my Research?

Research is an essential aspect of your graduate school career, and can benefit greatly from external funding. Augusta Wray and Jessie Roark from Ball State’s Sponsored Programs Office will offer information on resources and databases available to faculty and students to assist in identifying funding opportunities and support the grand writing process.

Discovering Muncie
