History Department

Student Engagement

Our department will keep you busy. In addition to your course work, you will have several hands-on experiences that take place outside of the classroom. We have a variety of additional programs that will immerse you in history and social studies.

From internships for public history majors to immersive learning experiences to the annual Student History Conference, there is always something going on. There are two honors societies and the History Club that you can join to meet friends, and don’t forget our study abroad opportunities.

While on campus, take advantage of our outstanding research facilities. You can undertake original research using the Sir Norman Angell Papers, the Stoeckel Archives (records of Muncie and Delaware County, Indiana), and the collection at the Center for Middletown Studies. Or take advantage of the cutting-edge Helen B. and Martin D. Schwartz Special Collections and Digital Complex, which offers access to unique collections, international broadcasts, and much more.

In addition, you will have the chance to hear from real people in the business during our annual history honors seminars. The seminars give us a chance to bring top-notch speakers to campus.
