Freshman Honors Scholarships

Students admitted to the Honors College are eligible for several scholarships sponsored by Ball State and its benefactors and awarded by the Honors College.  Students should apply to the Honors College no later than November 15 to ensure full consideration for all opportunities.  Some scholarships require a separate application form, while others do not.  For details on each scholarship, follow the links below. Please read the descriptions carefully and contact the Honors College if you have any questions.

Whitinger Scholars Program
The signature scholarship of the Honors College. Full tuition/fees and room and board, renewable for eight semesters. Ten scholarships awarded each year.  Applications are sent automatically to qualified students beginning in October.  Students should apply to Ball State no later than November 15 to ensure timely admission to the Honors College and sufficient time to receive and submit their application by the December 5 deadline.

Honors College and Honors Distinction Scholarships 
Selected Indiana students who are freshmen in Fall semester receive $5,000 per year for four years at Ball State; selected students from outside Indiana receive $10,000 per year for four years.  Applicants for the Whitinger Scholars program are also considered for these awards.

Dr. T. M. Anderson Scholarship 
Supplements the Presidential Scholarship up to the value of full Indiana tuition for four years.  Applications are sent to students who apply to the Honors College and indicate that they will major in History or Social Studies Education.  One scholarship is awarded each year. 

Deborah S. Wehman Scholarship 
Supplements the Presidential Scholarship up to the value of full Indiana tuition for four years. One scholarship awarded when funds are available.  All applicants to the Honors College are automatically considered.  An optional application form  may also be submitted.

O.L. Strong Scholarship
Maximum award equivalent to the value of in-state tuition in addition to other awards each year for four years.  " Recipient must major in Architecture, Business, Music, or Nursing. Scholarship is awarded when funds are available.  All applicants to the Honors College are automatically considered.  An optional application form  may also be submitted.

Honors College Awards of Excellence 
Ranging from $1,000 or higher per year in addition to other awards received, as funds are available.  An optional application form  may also be submitted.

Mr. and Mrs. Oliver K. Ho Scholarship
About $1,500 per year for four years in addition to other awards received, as funds are available.  An optional application form  may also be submitted.

Honors College Residency Award
The Honors College Residency Award is awarded to a select group of Honors College applicants.  The award currently pays up to $1,500 per year ($750 per semester for up to eight semesters) toward the following university room and board charges:  residence hall room and board, university apartment rent, and/or commuter meal plans.

For renewal, students are required to maintain their status in the Honors College and a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.33.
