Rotary International’s Global Ambassadorial Scholarship furthers international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries by sponsoring scholarships for graduate students pursuing degrees related to:

  • Peace and conflict resolution and prevention
  • Water and sanitation
  • Education and basic literacy
  • Disease prevention and treatment
  • Maternal and child health
  • Economic and community development

  • Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree by the time they begin their scholarship studies.
  • Candidates cannot be a member or employee of Rotary International, nor married or related to a member or employee of Rotary International. However, members of Rotaract Clubs and persons with disabilities are eligible and encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants must be proficient in the language of the proposed host country.

How to apply

  • Before applying, see if you qualify. If you qualify, you will get your application from your local Rotary Club.
  • Applicants must submit a completed application form, language evaluation form, and a letter of acceptance from the host institution.
  • Students must apply through a local-district Rotary Club; scholarship availability varies by Rotary district. Ball State students may apply through their home district or the Muncie-area district.
  • To apply through the Muncie-area district, students should contact Donald Whitaker at least six weeks before the deadline--preferably earlier. To find a club in another district, go to the Rotary Club Locator.
  • Applicants are strongly advised to work with Barb Stedman, director of national and international scholarships, in drafting and revising their autobiography and statement of intent. Even those applicants who intend to apply through their home district are advised to contact Barb Stedman for guidance. Call 285-1024 to schedule an appointment.

  • The deadline for the 2017 competition (to begin study in fall 2018) falls between January and February 2018 (depending on the local Rotary district's calendar).
  • The Muncie deadline is mid-January.
