YoungAh Lee is the director of the public relations graduate program with a diverse educational and professional background. Her research focuses on investigating the impact of strategic communication with an emphasis on reputation management and social media. Her approach to public relations emphasizes the role of reputation, believing that businesses best succeed when they align their communication and business goals. Recently, she has turned her focus to social network analysis to have a more theory-driven understanding of rich social media data while developing media analytics curriculum.

In 2016, YoungAh became a Plank Center Educator Fellow. This highly-competitive fellowship through the University of Alabama’s Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations placed Dr. Lee with Weber Shandwick to exchange ideas and information of benefit to both the professor and the organization-host, and ultimately, to her students.

YoungAh earned her first master of art’s degree in international relations in South Korea, leading her to her first job with the World Trade Organization as a research associate. Following this, she began working with the New Zealand embassy in South Korea where she learned her passion for strategic communication. This discovery led her to work with one of South Korea’s largest public relations agencies, a part of Omnicom Group, and then later to co-found her own, working with brands such as Microsoft, Häagen Dazs, and various government agencies.

She received a second master’s degree and Ph.D. in strategic communication from the Missouri School of Journalism at the University of Missouri. Now, YoungAh fulfills the roles of an applied public relations researcher, mentor, and professor.
