Others talk about keeping up with changes in media.
We embrace change, and we prepare you to lead the way in media transformation. Our faculty and students take risks, innovate, and adapt. We embrace and explore the challenges created by media convergence, the mobile revolution, and blurring boundaries of media platforms and content formats.
We believe you should enter your career path already experienced and confident. To that end, we offer not only high-quality classroom instruction but also a broad range of student agency and student media experiences. We require that you have at least one professional internship before graduating, and that you engage in at least one immersive learning opportunity.
Other reasons to choose Ball State for advertising, journalism, or public relations:
Students and faculty in the Department of Journalism are driven to excel. We aren't in it for the glory—but it’s satisfying when someone notices. We are frequent award winners, so much so that the list of recent awards is simply too long to reproduce on this page. Here are some highlights:
Ball State has been providing journalism and strategic communications education for more than 80 years. We have grown from a few classes into a large, accredited program through our long history.
Since 1979, we have been accredited by the international Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). Our public relations major is certified by the Public Relations Society of America.
Our philosophy is to provide you with the same professional experiences that you will encounter when you start your career. We know it’s important to provide the equipment, resources, and facilities for the hands-on education you need to be marketable. Our Unified Media Lab, Holden Strategic Communications Center, and computer labs and studios are second-to-none.
