Journalism  0005Your advertising, journalism or public relations journey begins as a freshman, when you begin taking major courses.  For advertising and public relations these first year foundation courses are:  

  • JOURN 101 Media and American Society
  • JOURN 103 Principles of Strategic Visual Communication
  • JOURN 104 Strategic Writing
  • JOURN 250 Strategic Writing for advertising 
    or
  • JOURN 261  Principles of Public Relations for public relations

For journalism these first year foundation courses are:

  • NEWS 108 Foundations of Journalism: Great Stories and Storytellers
  • NEWS 109 Foundations of Journalism: Ethical and Legal Principles
  • NEWS 120 Newsgathering: Research
  • NEWS 121 Newsgathering: Interviewing
  • NEWS 122 Journalistic Storytelling: Covering Events
  • NEWS 130 Multimedia: Design
  • NEWS 131 Multimedia: Stills
  • NEWS 132 Multimedia: Audio
