Ball state students and student organizations within the Department of Journalism earned 27 prestigious awards on the national, regional, and local levels during the 2016-17 academic year.
Student Media and Organizations
Ball Bearings, the story-driven in-depth magazine managed and written by BSU students, captured several awards, including two first place Pacemaker awards from the Associated Collegiate Press, three Pinnacle awards for website and best multimedia story, three Columbia Scholastic Press Association awards, a Hearst, and was declared the best online magazine by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
American Advertising Federation student chapter won seven American Advertising Federation (AAF) awards, including two Gold Addys, two Silver Addys, a Judge’s Choice award, and a People’s Choice award.
Individual Awards and Scholarships
On the local and regional levels, journalism students and organizations won awards and scholarships from the Society for Professional Journalists (Region 5), the Indianapolis Press Club, the Hoosier Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, and the Indiana Public Broadcasters Association, and nationally from the Journalism Education Association.
