Professional Experience:

Green currently teaches two sections of JOUR103, and as Outreach and Engagement Coordinator, she manages social media for the Department of Journalism as well as BSU Journalism Workshops, which includes the annual Journalism Day in April and the Summer Media Academy. Prior to coming to Ball State, she taught English and journalism and advised student media for 37 years, the last 20 years at Columbus North High School. While there, she built the journalism program from a traditional yearbook/newspaper production into a nationally-recognized student media brand with one of the first convergence programs. During her tenure, she taught at workshops, conferences, conventions and camps across the country.  She was elected to the Journalism Education Association Board of Directors in 2011 and continues to serve as chair of JEA’s Certification Committee.

Research/Creative/Publication Interests:

Journalism graphics, publication design, journalism education, teaching journalism and advising student media issues, national journalism educator certification, project-based learning, Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Research/Creative/Publication Career Highlights:

Green has been recognized as a Journalism Education Association Master Journalism Educator since 2006. She has written numerous articles for scholastic journalism publications, and she has served as a mentor to young journalism educators. Her awards include 2004 Indiana Journalism Teacher of the Year, 2006 BSU Department of Journalism Indiana Scholastic Journalism Award, 2006 Dow Jones Newspaper Fund Distinguished Adviser, 2006 and 2007 Coca-Cola Scholars Joseph B. Whitehead Educator of Distinction, 2009 JEA Distinguished Yearbook Adviser, 2010 Edna Folger Outstanding Educator Award, 2011 National Yearbook Adviser of the Year, 2013 JEA Medal of Merit Award, and 2013 National Scholastic Press Association Pioneer Award. In 2014, Green was inducted into the Department of Journalism Hall of Fame. Her former journalism students – many who are Ball State alumni — have gone on to work at a variety of media outlets, including USA Today, The Tampa Bay Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), and Disney.
