Professional/Research/Creative/Publication Career Highlights:
Juli was one of Gannett’s standout editors for more than 20 years, cited as the company’s Editor of the Year in 2000 and winner of Chairman’s awards in 2005 and 2009. Juli and news organizations under her direction have been cited by the Associated Press Managing Editors for outstanding public service journalism, the Scripps Howard Foundation with its National Journalism Award, the Knight Foundation for public service journalism, and by state press associations in Vermont, Ohio, Indiana, and Louisiana. As a journalism professor, Juli has worked with Afghan professors as part of a U.S. State Department grant to bring greater understanding of journalism and emerging media techniques to universities across Afghanistan.

From 2012-2014, she oversaw a $4 million build-out of the Unified Media Lab, a multimedia, cross-platform space serving interdepartmental students in the College of Communication, Information and Media. Students from print, broadcast, and digital platforms collaborate on story ideas and how best to present the stories based on the content, not the platform. Unified Media equips students with storytelling experience needed to be marketable in a competitive and changing media industry. Graduates from the program are prepared to lead the transformation of news and information industries.
