Faculty Research

The Department of Journalism is a strong teaching institution, and our faculty thrive on sharing their insight with tomorrow’s journalists, teachers, public relations professionals, and advertising executives. They also are active in research projects designed to further the practice of journalism and public relations and help practitioners better understand their craft and their role in society.

Recent research involving Ball State professors has explored topics such as these:

  • what kind of effect the celebrity models featured in magazine advertising has on women’s perception of body shapes
  • similarities and differences in Iraq War coverage in German and American newspapers
  • lessons that can be learned from corporate responses to the Sago mine disaster
  • how staff-produced newspaper blogs engage audiences
