Achievement in intercollegiate and professional competitions attests to your success as a student and your professional readiness. You are encouraged to take advantage of the numerous opportunities to showcase your work in state and national contests.

For example, Ball State Daily News students regularly earn honors for excellence. Most recently, the Daily News won a 2014 Gold Crown award for hybrid publication (print and online) from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (one of only eight Gold Crowns awarded). In 2013, it received a Silver Crown, CSPA's second-highest award, and in 2012, it won a Gold Crown for online publication. The Daily News is a frequent winner of Indiana Collegiate Press Association awards. Staff writers compete successfully for individual national and state awards, as well—too many to list here.

Ball Bearings print and online magazines regularly earn high awards from the Indiana Collegiate Press Association and regional awards from the Society of Professional Journalists. Recent national awards include second place in online magazine for 2012-2013 from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. In the 2014 Indiana Collegiate Press competition, Ball Bearings students won awards for Best Issue, Best News Story, Best Entertainment Story, Best Sports Feature, Best Video, Best Animation/Interactive Graphic, and Best Audio Slideshow.

Our chapters of the American Advertising Federation and Public Relations Student Society of America regularly place well in district and national competitions.

In addition to these student media and student agency competitions, you can submit your individual work for a wide range of national competitions such as the Hearst Journalism Awards Program.
