Gayle Hartleroad currently serves as the Director of Student Services in the Miller College of Business at Ball State University. Her previous positions include Associate Director of Graduate Programs (Ball State University), Senior Assistant Director for the Arts and Sciences Placement Office - Career Development Center (Indiana University) and Honors Program Assistant Director & Academic Advisor in the Department of Freshman Engineering (Purdue University). Gayle was honored by the Ball State University Alumni Association with the Graduate of the Last Decade (GOLD) Award.
Gayle earned a Doctor of Education degree in Higher Education Leadership with a concentration in Academic Affairs Administration. The title of her dissertation was Development of Strategies to Increase the Enrollment and Retention of Female Engineering Honor Students at Purdue University with a Plan for Evaluation and Implementation. She was named a Nova Southeastern University Programs for Higher Education Scholar, only one of two in the country. Additionally she earned a doctoral scholarship and publication awards from the National Academic Advising Association. Gayle's research interests focused on gifted and honors-level higher education students, discrimination of females in education, and women in non-traditional academic career fields. Her research has been published in the Journal of the National Collegiate Honors Council.
Contributing to the advancement of Ball State University and Miller College of Business, Gayle is a co-founder and administrator of the Miller Business Honors Program and Miller Scholarship. This program received recognition for outstanding academic advising by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and for its innovative nature by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).
Within higher education, Gayle has been selected as a presenter at the national conferences for the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC), American College Personnel Association (ACPA), National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), and the International First Year Experience. In collaborating with an engineering faculty, they earned the American Society of Engineering Education Outstanding Paper Award (Faculty/Advisor Collaboration: Creating Seamless Experiences) for the Indiana/Illinois section.
