Profile
Gayle Hartleroad currently serves as the Director of Student Services in the Miller College of Business at Ball State University. Most recently she was the Associate Director of Graduate Programs for the college. Previous to returning to her alma mater, Ball State, Gayle was the Senior Assistant Director for the Arts and Sciences Placement Office within the Career Development Center. Gayle joined Indiana University after serving as the Honors Program Assistant Director and Academic Advisor in the Department of Freshman Engineering at Purdue University. In 2004, Gayle was honored by the Ball State University Alumni Association with the Graduate of the Last Decade (GOLD) Award.

In 2003 Gayle earned her Doctor of Education degree in Higher Education Leadership with a concentration in Academic Affairs Administration. The title of her dissertation was Development of Strategies to Increase the Enrollment and Retention of Female Engineering Honor Students at Purdue University with a Plan for Evaluation and Implementation. She was named a Nova Southeastern University Programs for Higher Education Scholar, only one of two in the country. Additionally she has earned a doctoral scholarship and publication awards from the National Academic Advising Association. Gayle's research interests have focused on gifted and honors-level higher education students, discrimination of females in education, and women in non-traditional academic career fields. Her research has been published in the Journal of the National Collegiate Honors Council.

Within higher education, Gayle has been active in a number of professional associations. They include National Collegiate Honors Council, National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, and National Academic Advising Association. Gayle has been selected as a presenter at the national conferences for American College Personnel Association, National Academic Advising Association, National Society of Black Engineers, and the International First Year Experience. In collaborating with an engineering faculty, they earned the American Society of Engineering Education Outstanding Paper Award (Faculty/Advisor Collaboration: Creating Seamless Experiences) for the Indiana/Illinois section. Gayle has also received honors from the National Dean's List, Alpha Lambda Delta, Blue Key, & Golden Key National Honor Societies.
