Internships and Immersive Learning

It takes more than going to class and reading textbooks to really understand what your future career is about. Internships and immersive learning kick start your brain, your passion for your career, and the skills you learn in course work.

With immersive learning, you will drive the learning process while working with a faculty mentor. You often work on interdisciplinary teams, finding real-world solutions to real-world problems.

Here are a just few examples of immersive learning projects:

  • working with Vera Bradley to help the Fort Wayne, Indiana-based company plan its opening of  new stores
  • pitching in to improve water quality in the White River watershed (which includes Muncie, Indiana) and raising awareness about water pollution
  • helping the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown, Indiana (site of the movie Hoosiers), improve its marketability

Ball State has several programs such as:

  • Building Better Communities—Help spur economic development and improve the quality of life in communities across Indiana.
  • Business Fellows—Work with an interdisplinary teams of students and faculty mentors and find real-world solution for Indiana businesses, organizations, or communities on projects.
  • New Venture Creation—In this capstone course for entrepreneurs, you work through all the steps of creating your own business plan—and put your graduation on the line when you present it to a panel of experts.
  • Business Assistants—Work on an interdisciplinary student team, guided by executive mentors, and solve problems in local businesses or organizations while you learn marketing and management theories. This program is designed especially for Miller College of Business students. 
  • Learn about more immersive learning opportunities.

Hands-on Learning for Business and Marketing Education

If you are in business and marketing education studying for teacher licensure in Indiana, there are plenty of field experiences and student teaching positions in Indiana public schools.
