Advanced Professionalism Certificate

You want to get a job after you graduate, and we’re going to help you get there. We encourage our sophomore and junior students to take advantage of our Advanced Professionalism Certificate program (APC). The program, which is sponsored by the Miller College of Business Alumni Board, teaches you skills in job searching and career development.


Practice makes perfect in our book, and we have several opportunities for you to learn and test your skills, which is a requirement for the certificate. You must attend a minimum of 12 events before graduation. Required events include:

  • Miller College Connections Program session (1)
  • Career Center resumé review (1)
  • Career Center Job Fair preparation session (1)
  • On-campus job fairs (2)
  • Career Center etiquette dinner (1, fee required)
  • Online tutorial on ethics* (1)
  • Miller College speaker presentation (1)
  • Your Choice: seminars/speakers/Career Center mock interview (4)

Your Choice events include the following:

  • Ball State University Career Center seminarsYou are encouraged to take advantage of valuable Career Center services, lessons, and resources.
  • Miller College of Business Distinguished Speaker Series/Executive-in-Residence ProgramRespected business professionals and executives share their personal career stories and offer advice on career and professional development.  Attendance at one speaker presentation is required for the certificate. Your Choice options may be met by attending additional presentations.
  • Miller College of Business Connections Program eventsFaculty from every program in the college explain course requirements and career options for those pursuing a specific business major.  You are encouraged to attend several sessions to explore different majors; however, only one session will count toward meeting the attendance requirement for the certificate.
  • Career Center Mock Interview. Interview for an internship or job at the Career Center.  Only one interview will count for APC credit.

* Ethics Tutorial Instructions: 

  1. Go to 
  2. Enter your Ball State username and password (you may need to allow pop-ups). 
  3. Complete the tutorial and click on Submit.
  4. Complete the info form to receive APC credit.

You are encouraged to attend at least two programs each semester to keep your certificate participation active.

You can enroll at any time by completing the online registration form or stopping by Student Services in Whitinger Business Building, room 147.
