All students must apply to both the School of Music and to Ball State University. International students should begin the application process through the Rinker Center for International Programs.

Auditions

Undergraduate Students

Prospective undergraduate music majors and minors are required to audition for admission to the School of Music, as well as for scholarship consideration. You must audition on a primary instrument with appropriate faculty from that area.

Audition Dates

  • Friday, January 19 from 2-8 p.m. (voice and all instruments except percussion) 
  • Saturday, February 10 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (winds/strings/percussion only)
  • Sunday, February 11 from 1-8 p.m. (voice and keyboard only)
  • Monday, February 19 from noon-8 p.m. (all instruments and voice)

Graduate Students

Auditions are required for all graduate performance applicants, while a portfolio review is required for music composition, theory, music education, and musicology graduate applicants. Auditions may be scheduled individually with the applied performance or conducting professor.
