Graduate Admissions
Admission requirements for graduate programs in music vary by degree and program. For a complete listing of admission requirements please consult the Graduate Music Handbook (PDF).
Admission to all of our graduate programs is a multi-step process. You must be admitted by both the Ball State Graduate School and the School of Music. In addition, performance, conducting and artist diploma degrees require an audition. Students pursuing education, research, or composition degrees should submit a research or composition portfolio as appropriate.
U.S. citizens apply through the Ball State Graduate School, while international students contact the Rinker Center for International Programs.
Prospective graduate students must follow the procedures outlined in the Graduate Music Handbook (PDF). Please pay close attention to what materials must be sent to the Ball State Graduate School (or Rinker Center for International Programs) and what materials must be sent to the Coordinator of Graduate Programs in Music.
Music graduate assistantships are also available for some master’s, artist diploma, and doctoral students. Application information is available in the Graduate Music Handbook (PDF).
