Undergraduate Admissions
Students pursuing a bachelor’s degree or minor in music must apply for admission to Ball State and the School of Music. Criteria for admission and scholarship consideration include outstanding performance at an audition and at least one recommendation letter (PDF) by someone in the music profession. International students must apply through the Rinker Center for International Programs.
Performance Audition
Music students must demonstrate proficiency in one or more of the following: keyboard, symphonic instruments (strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion), guitar, voice, or harp.
Theory, Aural Skills, and Piano Exams
At the audition, you'll take a music theory exam and aural skills exam in order to determine your readiness for college-level music theory and ear training. You'll also take a piano diagnostic exam for placement. Transfer students must be tested individually in both sight-singing and written theory before they can be placed.
