Kirby L. Koriath is professor emeritus of organ and church music at the School of Music, Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana. Prior to joining the Ball State faculty in 1971 he was an instructor of music at Kent State University. He served as the graduate coordinator in music at Ball State from 1980-2009. He earned the associate degree at Concordia College, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; the bachelor's degree at Concordia Senior College, Fort Wayne, Indiana; the master of divinity degree from Concordia Theological Seminary, St. Louis; and the doctor of musical arts degree from the Eastman School of Music. He received a diploma in harpsichord performance from the International Summer Music Academy, Mallorca, Spain. His teachers include Russell Saunders, Fernando Valenti, M. Alfred Bichsel, Robert Bergt, Paul Manz, Jack Ruhl, Herbert Neuchterlein and James Engel.

Koriath has given numerous organ recitals nationally and has appeared as soloist with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra. In the summer of 2001 he presented recitals for Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. In 2007 he performed at the national convention of the Organ Historical Society. His research interests include the areas of computer applications in the arts, keyboard studies, and issues in higher education. He received an award of commendation in the major publications category from the Concordia Historical Institute, St. Louis, for his book, Music for the Church: The Life and Work of Walter E. Buszin, published in 2003 by the Good Shepherd Institute, Fort Wayne, Ind. He serves as organist and director of the Chancel Choir at First Presbyterian Church, Muncie.
