School of Music will host the Society of Composers, Inc. National Conference

The School of Music is pleased to announce it will host the Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI) National Conference from March 20-22, 2014. The conference will take place in conjunction with the university’s annual Festival of New Music and is a platform for member composers to showcase their works in a series of concerts and paper presentations. All concerts and paper presentations are free and open to the public. A list of events can be found by visiting the School of Music’s online calendar.

The concerts will feature compositions by some of Ball State’s faculty, including those by Amelia Kaplan, Keith Kothman, Jody Nagel, Michael Pounds, Jim Rhinehart, and Robert Willey. In addition, over one hundred School of Music faculty and students will perform at the conference, including the Ball State Chamber Choir and Concert Choir, the Musical Arts Woodwind Quintet, and the Da Camera Brass Quintet.

SCI is a professional society concerned with the fellowship, collaboration, career goals, and objectives of new and contemporary composers and those interested in topics related to composition. The society was founded in 1966 and continues strong today with a member base of approximately 1500 composers. Learn more about SCI.
