John ObryckiJohn Obrycki describes his experience in Ball State University's Natural Resources and Environmental Management master's program in a single word: "Empowering."

As he was studying history and American studies as an undergraduate, John became interested in community engagement. He soon found that Ball State's Natural Resources and Environmental Management program would give him the scientific skills to study urban gardens, soil quality, and their effect on the health of city residents.

While at Ball State, John made connections across disciplines while using lab spaces in various academic settings. His experience is just one example of how NREM graduate students blend the social and physical sciences to create a career path that suits their unique passions. John said his graduate studies at Ball State allowed him to keep "doing the most good and maximizing the benefits for the most."

Currently, John is pursuing a PhD in Environment and Natural Resources, with specializations in Soil Science and Ecosystem Restoration, at Ohio State University.
